BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn and Cinder Copper & Lace will unleash 85+ kegs of rare, fancy and unique drafts on Pro Bowl Sunday, January 28th during Sour Bowl, Stout Bowl and Cider Bowl. Since Philly Beer Week back in June, Craft Concepts (the group behind the three bars) has been squirreling away hard-to-get keys that include sours, wild ales, funky ciders and tops in imperial IPAs and stouts.

"The nature of our Sour Bowl series of events is to put together complete tap takeovers at each bar, essentially tapping the absolute best collection of beers and ciders that we are able to accumulate over the course of the year," said Craft Concepts Group Director of General Operations and Philadelphia beer expert Alex Bokulich. "This is my magnum opus - even with the great events we are able to put together for Philly Beer Week and other occasions, this is the absolute top of the mountain."

Taps start pouring at BRU (1318 Chestnut Street) with Sour Bowl IV at 10:30am with a special BRUnch menu, followed by Stout Bowl III at U-Bahn (1320 Chestnut) at 12:00pm, then across Broad Street at Cinder Copper & Lace at 2:00pm for Cider Bowl II. All beers will be specially priced between $7 and $10 (average) and are available first come, first served until kegs kick. For more information and tap updates, visit BRU Craft and Wurst's event page on Facebook, or visit each bar's page on Philly Tap Finder.

Together, Sour Bowl, Stout Bowl and Cider Bowl are one of Philadelphia's largest and most diverse beer and cider events for the winter season. Cheers!

SOUR BOWL IV

Sour Bowl scores at BRU Craft & Wurst for the fourth edition. Between Stout Bowl III downstairs & Cider Bowl II around the corner, we've got 85+ lines of awesome pouring within a couple of blocks.

Sour Bowl is an annual one day-long celebration featuring a full tap takeover, anchored by rare and exclusive wild ales.
"This is our favorite event of the year, and we think that it is truly special due to the depth of the list we are blessed to be able to put forth," said Bokulich. "We spend much of the year earnestly seeking and accumulating these kegs, so there is no really no shortage of exciting product on display."

"Sour Bowl is the flagship event, now going into it's fourth year. The foundation is a block of 26 sours from across the world, and then balanced by seven IPA's. Highlights to the sour lineup are always Cantillon and Russian River, arguably the two most sought after breweries in the world, but the reality is from top to bottom, all 26 beers selected are incredibly limited, rare, or otherwise sought after by enthusiasts. This year we are happy to have added Hof Ten Doormal and Hannsen's lambics from Belgium, and to counterpoint these 'old masters' with some selections of our favorite locals, Second District, Forest & Main, and Fermentary Form. The IPA contingent is similarly balanced, with three 'big name' beers in Pliny the Elder, Hopslam, and Lunch... then rounded out with extremely fresh local hoppy beers from Levante, Sterling Pig, Urban Village, and Funk."

Doors open early at 10:30am for first kegs to be tapped.
BRU is located at 1318 Chestnut, located on the South side of the street across from Macy's. Numerous garage and lot parking is available (the garages at 12th & Sansom are recommended), and it is a five minute walk from both Suburban and Market East (sic) stations, as well as convenient to Patco and the Broad Street and Market Frankford lines.

STOUT BOWL III

Stout Bowl is back at U-Bahn with fourteen killer stouts on tap, a fresh cask of Nugget Nectar on the hand pump, and some food specials to keep folks from floating off of their stools.

Bokulich said, "Stout Bowl is entering it's third year, beginning at Sour Bowl 2 when we realized we had more choices than tap space available at BRU. This list is the most singularly focused, with fourteen imperial stouts on tap, and just one firkin of fresh, dry hopped Troegs Nugget Nectar. This list is comprised of the most exciting stouts we are able to collect through the year, mostly yearly special releases from the brewery, and highlighted by KBS, Abraxas, Velvet Merkin, Anniversary Rasputin, and a vintage keg of Prairie Bomb! that we've cellared for two years."
Kegs will pour all day, and generally only one will kick, so don't stress if you can't make it early. All stouts are priced $7-10 for regular .25L pours, and also available in 3.5oz tasters for $3-4.5/ea. Food menu will be limited to just the specials listed below, but full kitchen rocks all day and night upstairs in BRU.

CIDER BOWL II

Cider Bowl is pouring at Cinder Copper & Lace and it's not just apples! We've put together a full lineup for our favorite day of the year - pouring special blends and new releases from our PA cider friends, some 'big name' hops, sours, and stouts from house favorite breweries, and a full slate of special drafts from our friends and heroes up at Oxbow Brewing Company. We'll also be featuring mussels six different ways, and a large list of local Fair Food Philadelphia cheeses & housemade charcuterie... so bring your friends.

Bokulich said, "Cider Bowl is the youngest event in the series, and easily the most diverse. This list uses the same eclectic draft structure that Cinder perennially offers, broken into sections based on what we've identified as the most 'exciting' or desirable styles for our customers. The first focus is indeed on ciders, where we pour one special keg each from Vermont and France (fancy stuff we need a special occasion to tap into!), and then round it out with a half dozen products from our favorite PA cideries - each one either an exclusive or 'sneak peak' of a new limited or seasonal release. This will be Philly's first taste of Arsenal Riesling, Jack's Breakfast, Wyndridge Northern Spy, Big Hill Thimbleberry, Stone & Key Wild Orange... and the only taste of a special blend of Distlefunk from Ploughman."
Cinder is located in the 1500 Building on Locust between 15th & 16th. Street parking is limitedt, but several garages are in within a block of the bar. Suburban Station is less than five minutes walk, plus within blocks of major stops for Patco, Market Frankford, and Broad Street lines.
