Amaryllis Theatre Company Presents GAGARIN WAY 1/19-2/7

Amaryllis Theatre Company continues its season with the dark Scottish comedy Gagarin Way by Gregory Burke running from January 19 through February 7 at Amaryllis Theatre Company's home in The Playground at the Adrienne (2030 Sansom Street). This co-production with Inis Nua Theatre will be directed by Inis Nua Theatre's artistic director Tom Reing and feature the ensemble cast of Jared Delaney, Brian McCann, Kevin Meehan and Jered McLenigan.

Performances are at 7:00 on Tuesdays and Opening Night, November 11; at 8:00 on Wednesdays through Fridays except Opening; and at 2:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Gagarin Way uses the high-voltage story of a botched kidnapping to explore its characters' conflicting impulses toward apathy and outrage. Two dispossessed factory workers decide to make a political statement by kidnapping an executive from the factory's multi-national corporate owner. With the Cold War long since over, the workers are too late for the revolution, and they find that their hostage challenges their assumptions about the evils of the global economy.

Tom Reing (Director) recently directed Waiting for Godot at Amaryllis. Having made a career directing Irish theater in Philadelphia, he has also directed Eugene O'Brien's Eden for Brat Productions and Brian Friel's Molly Sweeney for Amaryllis. With his company, Inis Nua Theatre, he has presented three American premieres, as well as three Philadelphia premieres. An accomplished educator, Reing has worked for The Abbey Theatre in Education and for Rainbow Arts in Belfast and teaches theatre and arts in learning at Temple University. The recipient of an Independence Fellowship in the Arts, a MidAtlantic Arts Fellowship, and a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Playwriting Fellowship, Reing has received two Barrymore Awards for Outstanding Arts in Education for his past programs at InterAct Theatre.

Jared Michael Delaney (Gary) was featured in the Barrymore Award-winning production of The Comedy of Errors at Lantern Theatre Company. He has also appeared in All My Sons and The BFG at Arden Theatre Company, and Julius Caesar, Macbeth, King Lear, and Much Ado About Nothing at Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival as well as in productions at Philadelphia Theatre Company Walnut Street Theatre and Pig Iron Theatre Company.

Brian McCann (Frank) has appeared at Lantern Theatre Company, most recently in When You Coming Back, Red Ryder and Happy Days and in several productions at Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival, including The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, Hamlet and Julius Caesar. He has also performed The Tempest with Villanova University, Love's Labor Lost at Hedgerow, Henry IV Part One with Philadelphia Shakespeare in the Park and Macbeth with Curio Theater.

Jered McLenigan (Eddie) appeared with Inis Nua Theatre in last season's production of Made in China. He received a Barrymore Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play for his multiple roles in It's A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play at Prince Music Theatre and was nominated for Barrymore Award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play for The Elephant Man at Iron Age Theatre. He has also appeared in The Pillowman, Amadeus, and Rock ‘N' Roll, all at The Wilma Theater, and The Karma Cookie at 1812 Productions, as well as at Lantern Theatre Company, Act II Playhouse, and Mum Puppettheatre.

Kevin Meehan (Tom) has been a frequent guest at Philadelphia Dramatist Center in Anonymous Williams, The Journey, and Won At Last; Hedgerow Stage Company in Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol and Tales From Poe. He has featured at Nice People Theatre Company and New City Stage Company.

Gagarin Way brings together the creative team of Meghan Jones as set designer, Andrew Cowles as lighting designer, Maggie Baker as costume designer, and Mikaal Sulaiman as sound designer.

The season concludes with I Am My Own Wife by Doug Wright from May 11 to 23, 2010. Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, I Am My Own Wife chronicles Doug Wright's fascination with the life of transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf and her unlikely survival through the Nazi and Communist regimes in East Germany.
