Act II Playhouse in Ambler presents Why I'm Scared of Dance by Jen Childs, a one-woman show written by and featuring Jen Childs and directed by Harriet Power. Why I'm Scared of Dance by Jen Childs plays at Act II for two weeks only, Jan. 15-27, 2013.

Jen Childs stars in her hilarious and heartwarming one-woman comedy, where she takes you on her lifelong quest to become a great dancer. From ballet to hip-hop to tap, she proves that working at the barre is not nearly as much fun as working at the bar.

The performance originated at 1812 Productions, Philadelphia's all-comedy theater company, where Childs is co-founder and artistic director. "It is a very personal piece for me and my relationship to it deepens every time I come back to it," Childs said. "Also it is just really fun to do. There is no other piece I perform where I get to dance with such abandon - it is both the scariest and most freeing thing I've ever done on stage."

The performance has received rave reviews in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. "Why I'm Scared of Dance combines physical humor with non-stop wisecracks for an amazingly fast-paced rush of laughs, insights and general cheeriness," the Pittsburgh CityPaper raved.

Childs last appeared at Act II Playhouse in last winter's hit comedy Let's Pretend We're Married, alongside Act II Artistic Director Tony Braithwaite. "I love the intimacy of the Act II space and am excited to share the show with this audience," Childs said.

Why I'm Scared of Dance by Jen Childs is directed by Harriet Power, the former associate artistic director of Act II Playhouse. The design team includes Adam Riggar (Scenic Design), Shelley Hicklin (Lighting Design), and Chris Colucci (Sound Design).

Tickets for Why I'm Scared of Dance by Jen Childs are $22 for previews, $27 for all Wednesday-Friday performances and $33 for Saturday and Sunday shows. Discounts are available for subscribers, students, group of 10 or more, and seniors (65+). Tickets are available by calling the Act II Box Office at (215) 654-0200, in person at 56 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler, or online at http://www.act2.org. Box office hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
