With works that celebrate the solstice to performances inside a Chinese Restaurant, the 4th annual SoLow Festival is experimenting with the theme of "Loners and Rebels." SoLow Festival is an inexpensive artistic event dedicated to presenting new and experimental work in a collective manner. With over twenty performing artists June 20th to 30th, SoLow focuses on the artistic creation and growth of solo artists conceiving new work with low or no-cost risk. The productions will be presented at a variety of non-traditional venues throughout the city (and one in Cincinnati, OH). Audiences and artists are invited to experience the original, unique, and experimental of SoLow Festival with affordable Pay What You Can performances.
SoLow Festival offers a grass-roots, raw feel with focus on original and solo performances. There is no umbrella organization producing the festival; the festival's curators consider SoLow a compilation. There are no application or marketing fees and no screening process. The most important component is that 100% of revenue goes immediately back to the artists. This year's festival will feature artists including Kristen Bailey, Lesley Berkowitz, Chris Davis, Michael Durkin, Christina Gesualdi, Steve Gravelle, T.S. Hawkins, Dan Higbee, Josh Hitchens, C. Kennedy, Amelia Longo, MM2 Modern Dance Company, Gigi Naglak, Seth Reichgott, Heidi Rose, Wendy Staton, Daniel Student, R. Eric Thomas, Eileen Tull, MeghAnn Williams, and Annie Wilson. Interested artists are still eligible to submit solo projects to the festival.
SoLow Festival was developed from the inspirations of local performing artists Thomas Choinacky and Amanda Grove. Seeking a way to present their own solo work with minimal expense, they developed the idea to get other people involved. This year SoLow also welcomes MeghAnn Williams to the fold as a third curator for the festival. Now in its fourth year, SoLow features installation art, solo performance, dance, and performance art, among others. Too often artists' work is stifled from development and creation by simply cost. This festival offers the opportunity for performance to be affordable for both artists and audiences, following a Pay What You Can model. Experimenting within our theme of "Loners and Rebels" SoLow has one artist performing in conjunction with SoLow Festival in Cincinnati, OH. We are interested in changing the norm. We are inspiring individuals to make and produce art that would otherwise never be created.
