The Prince Music Theater in Philadelphia has announced its 2006-2007 season, which will feature two classic musicals and a number of world premieres. Among the talents taking part in the shows will be Leslie Uggams and Paul Scott Goodman.
The season will kick off with the hip-hop musical
From Tha Hip, created and choreographed by Clyde Evans. Running from September 19th through October 1st, it will feature music by Subliminal Orphans and will star Chosen Dance Company members.
KT Sullivan and Mark Nadler will then present their revues
Always: The Love Story of Irving Berlin and
A Swell Party: RSVP Cole Porter; the former runs from October 17th through October 29th and the latter from November 1st through November 5th.
Richard M. Parrison, Jr., who helped to make a recent hit of the theatre's
Dreamgirls, will stage the Irving Berlin-
Herbert Fields-Dorothy Fields classic
Annie Get Your Gun, in which sharpshooter Annie Oakley gets her man to a score that includes "There's No Business Like Show Business," "They Say It's Wonderful" and "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun." That production will run from December 2nd through December 31st.
Stormy Weather, a world premiere musical, will run from February 10th, 2006 through March 4th. It will star Tony Award-winner Uggams (
Hallelujah, Baby) as the great songstress Lena Horne; the show will include many of Horne's greatest hits, including the Arlen-Koehler song of the title.
Composer/lyricist Goodman--whose
Bright Lights, Big City is currently a hit at the Prince--will offer the autobiographical musical
Tiny Dancer from March 14th through April 1st. The world premiere musical will be written with
Miriam Gordon (with whom he co-wrote
Rooms).
The season will conclude with a production of
Hair, which features music by Galt McDermot, and lyrics and book by Gerome Ragni and
James Rado. The show will mark the 40th anniversary of "The American Tribal Love Rock Musical," which features songs such as "Let the Sunshine In," "Age of Aquarius" and the title song.
Hair will run from May 26th through June 24th.
