On a hot, still Darwin morning, Ruebn wakes to the tragic loss of his cousin…
What follows is the story of a family, buffeted by constant tragedy, holding itself together – as their people have done generation after generation. This play asks us: how do we deal with death? And how many other people does it take for each of us to live? Little by little, Ruben’s family brings him back from the edge.
“Alberts’ script grabs you by the heartstrings in the first few minutes and doesn’t let you go.” – Polly Simons / Stage Noise
Brothers Wreck was chosen by Maitland Schnaars, the Artistic Director of Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, as an opportunity to highlight the increasingly tragic amount of young Aboriginal lives lost. Upon reflection, he was called to Jada Alberts, Brother’s Wreck, a timeless investigation into tragedy, loss and how families rebuild after heartbreak.
Brothers Wreck will shake you to your core and bring you through a powerful, emotional, and transformative night of theatre!
Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company is at 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco, Western Australia.
