A menagerie of creatures who have set up home in a water pipe manage to co-exist peacefully until one day a landslide blocks the exits from the pipe. This causes problems of space and threatens to disrupt the harmony amongst the group. Suddenly, as if by magic, the mysterious Arbistark appears accompanied by his four furry creations, the Fassnahs. Life in the water pipe is changed forever and suddenly becomes exciting, magical, funny with brief appearances of some strange characters like the Water People who call themselves “Three Drips and a Drop”. The ending is full of surprises.
The first public performance of “Arbistark and the Fassnahs” was in 1989 with a cast of adults. The play has since been revised and adapted to enable children themselves to perform it – a case of children performing for children. It has a cast of eighteen 9-12 yr olds.
George White a West Australian playwright and former lecturer in theatre at Edith Cowan University will direct the children in this production.
