Dame Myra Hess was one of Britain’s best-loved pianists. When the Second World War broke out, she put her own international career on hold to produce almost 1700 lunchtime concerts at the National Gallery in London. This humorous, passionate and highly entertaining account of one of the most remarkable musical achievements of the 20th century, and one which lasted for the entire duration of the war, is performed by Olivier award winning actress Patricia Routledge (best known to television audiences as Hyacinth in keeping Up Appearances) and internationally renowned classical pianist Piers Lane. Together they have entranced audiences in Britain and beyond and will perform the work for the first time in Australia on this strictly limited tour. Featuring music by Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and Bach.
