West End Comedy THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Bound for Australia

Olivier Award-winning theatre company Mischief Theatre are bringing their comedy masterpiece The Play That Goes Wrong to Australia for the first time from February next year.

Acclaimed with five star reviews and currently playing to packed houses in the West End this brilliant comedic piece will open in Melbourne on 22 February followed by Adelaide on 28 March, Sydney from 5 April, Canberra from 26 April 2017, Brisbane from 6 May 2017, and in Perth from 31 May 2017.

The play introduces 'The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society' who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong...does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call.

Co-written by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields and directed by Mark Bell, The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical comedy packed with finely-tuned farce and Buster Keaton inspired slapstick delivered with split-second timing and ambitious daring.

Original London Mischief Director Mark Bell has been in Australia holding auditions to find a suitably incompetent bunch of actors to deliver Mischief Theatre's trademark comic mayhem. The Australian cast will be announced shortly.

The Play That Goes Wrong got it absolutely right when right when it clinched a number of accolades including the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy 2015, BroadwayWorld UK Winner for Best New Play 2015 and WhatsOnStage Award Winner for Best New Comedy 2014. The critically-acclaimed production continues to thrive in the West End playing to sold-out houses. Chaos will continue across the UK with a second nationwide tour, recently announced along with news that The Play That Goes Wrong is Broadway bound in 2017.

Mischief Theatre was founded in 2008 by a group of graduates of The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began as an improvised comedy group. The company perform across the UK and internationally with improvised and original scripted work. This is Mischief's first Australian Tourand they look forward to Going Wrong, upside down, on the other side of the world.

This is Kenny's third show with the Mischief Theatre Company, the others being The Play That Goes Wrong, winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery currently running at the Criterion Theatre. Kenny is very proud to have produced the world-premiere production of Top Hat, which was the recipient of three Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical from its seven nominations and the Evening Standard Award for Best Night Out. Kenny also produced Once on This Island for Imagination at the Royalty Theatre which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 1995, having been nominated in four categories. He also co-produced Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town starring Connie Fisher and Michael Xavier, which won the Manchester Theatre Award for Best Production 2012. 2014 saw the launch of Hetty Feather, an adaptation of a novel by Jacqueline Wilson, directed by Sally Cookson and nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award in the category of Best Family Entertainment.

Kenny has built up a reputation of being one of the most prolific providers of shows for children in the West End and around the provinces, with titles which include: David Walliams's Mr Stink (UK Tour); The Gruffalo (Lyric and Duchess theatres and Tour); The Gruffalo's Child (Arts Theatre and Tour), Room on the Broom (Lyric and Garrick theatres and UK tour - Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Family Entertainment); The Tiger Who Came to Tea (Lyric and Vaudeville theatres and Tour - Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Family Entertainment) and We're Going on a Bear Hunt (Duchess and Lyric theatres, Sydney Opera House, Hong Kong, Singapore and North America tour). In 2013, he produced the stage adaptation of a new Julia Donaldson book, What the Ladybird Heard. The newest additions to the family shows are Stiles and Drewe's Three Little Pigs (Palace) and Mr Popper's Penguins which is playing at the New Victory Theatre in New York this Autumn prior to a run in the West End. Other projects for 2016 / 17 include a run at the Haymarket and UK tour of Bad Jews, a UK tour of Relatively Speaking starring Robert Powell and Liza Goddard, a stage adaptation of Fellini's Oscar winning movie La Strada, the Broadway transfer of The Play That Goes Wrong, and UK and Australian tours of The Play That Goes Wrong.
