QPAC's Latest Exhibition PUPPET PEOPLE Opens Tomorrow

Queensland Performing Arts Centre's (QPAC's) latest exhibition Puppet People: A Snapshot of Australian Puppetry will open in the Centre's Tony Gould Gallery on Tuesday 10 October 2017 and run until Saturday 27 January 2018.

This FREE exhibition, hosted and curated by QPAC Museum, delves into the world of puppetry with an array of puppets and associated interpretive material on show.

The exhibition explores the history of puppetry in Australia, having arrived here from the UK in the form of Punch and Judy shows in the 1840s. Since that time, a rich tradition of Australian puppetry performance has grown to encompass a multitude of styles from traditional to avant-garde, often reflecting social and cultural change.

QPAC's Exhibitions Manager Maria Cleary said that in this age of technology 'Puppet People' bring their wonderful creations to life in real time for everyone to enjoy.

"Puppet People not only features more than 50 puppets, but also showcases just some of the people and companies who brought the puppets to life. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the often surprising world of puppetry in Australia, from our historic Punch and Judy shows to Laser Beak Man puppets from the Dead Puppet Society, fresh from their premiere season at La Boite Theatre, and all sorts in between," said Ms Cleary.
