OUR TOWN Becomes P Town As Part Of Perth Festival Image

BLACK SWAN State Theatre Company's first production for the year is the Pulitzer award winning Our Town by Thornton Wilder.

This one-of-a-kind theatre event is presented as part of Perth Festival across limited performances under the stars in the State Theatre Centre Courtyard from Friday 8 Feb to Sunday 23 February.

What if a teacher was actually played by a teacher? An undertaker by an undertaker? A doctor from one of our local medical clinics.

Our Town is Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer prize-winning drama, a favourite of the modern American canon that brings to life the fictional town of Grover's Corners. We get to know the town's inhabitants, as if they were our very own neighbours. We follow their lives some fleetingly and others more intimately running the gamut of everyday human experience. BLACK SWAN artistic Director Clare Watson says Our Town is one of my all-time favourites, it's a play about community and citizenship, so to collaborate with members of our own community, fellow citizens, makes it thrillingly relevant and alive.

Within the minutiae of these characters' lives ordinary people going about their daily business we will discover something extraordinary about who we are. Perth's very own choirmasters and Uber Eats drivers with close to 100 members of the local community will join our cast of professional actors to populate and invigorate the story of Our Town.

Our Town is a unique Perth Festival offering that speaks to us on the urgent necessity of living in the here and now.
