Each fortnight a different play from the canon of great theatrical works will be read at an informal gathering, followed by a guided conversation lead by Black Swan Associate Director Jeffrey Jay Fowler and an invited guest artist.
We seek to foster conversation among the artists of Perth about the origins of our art form, and how it has led to contemporary practice.
The year will begin with a discussion and readings of plays from Ancient Greece with a specific focus on Oedipus Rex and then progress all the way forward to contemporary Australian work. Our guest artist for this first session is theatre maker and member of Black Swan's Emerging Writer's Group Finn O'Branagáin (The Epic, The Crossing).
The first GOOD PLAY CLUB session commences on Tuesday 22 March at 6pm at The Blue Room Theatre. Places are limited for this FREE fortnightly event, so an RSVP is essential. To confirm your place, email: invite@blueroom.org.au.
GOOD PLAY CLUB will continue for the duration of 2016, with a second session scheduled on Tuesday 12 April @ 6pm and then sessions will run fortnightly after that.
This is your chance to engage intellectually with other artists and to see how the theatre being staged in Perth today fits its historical context.
Wine will be provided by Willoughby Park.
