Following on from the success of utilising the resident show at the Capitol Theatre, the 2015 Helpmann Awards ceremony, hosted by Todd McKenney, will take place on the set of Cameron Mackintosh's LES MISERABLES and be broadcast live on Foxtel Arts. Established in 2001, The Helpmann Awards, named in honour of the achievements of Sir Robert Helpmann, is the premier celebration of the achievements in the live performance industry in Australia and is our nation's equivalent of the Tony Awards and the Olivier Awards.
The night is set to include performances from
Presenters will include celebrated and acclaimed actor Cate Blanchett, screen and theatre actors Marta Dusseldorp and Danielle Cormack and singer, stage performer and television presenter, David Campbell (Nominated with John Bucchino for DAVID CAMPBELL SINGS JOHN BUCCHINO). Stars of Foxtel's new series SCREEN, Margaret Pomeranz and Graeme Blundell will be joined by multi-talented Denise Scott and Amanda Bishop. Television and music icon Marcia Hines and ventriloquist Darren Carr will also present awards. Additionally, 2015 Helpmann Awards Nominees Madeline Eastoe, Dean Bryant, Andrew Hallsworth, Trevor Ashley and Stuart Maunder AM will also be presenting on the night along with opera singers Lindy Hume and Emma Matthews, Cabaret legends iOTA and Mitchell Butel, musical theatre stars Lara Mulcahy, Christie Whelan Browne, James Millar and Blazey Best.
NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant, Live Nation Australasia CEO Michael Coppel, Brisbane Baroque Artistic Director Leo Schofield AM, conductor and musical director Vanessa Scammell, 2015 Brian Stacey Award Recipient Jessica Gethin and Live Performance Australia President Andrew Kay are also scheduled to present.
Peter Garrett AM, lead singer of Australian Band Midnight Oil will present the 2015 JC Williamson Award that recognises individuals that have "made a truly outstanding contribution to the enrichment of the Australian live entertainment and performing arts culture and shaped the future of the industry for the better" to previously announced recipient, Paul Kelly. Kelly, as a performer and songwriter has over 20 recorded studio albums, several film soundtracks, two live albums and a critically acclaimed memoir. Clare Bowditch and the Paul Kelly Band will pay homage to Paul Kelly with a performance of his sing from the 1995 acclaimed album of the same name, Deeper Water.
The 2015 Sue Nattrass Award will be presented to Eric Robinson, CEO of JPJ Audio and Jands Production Services (JPS). The Sue Nattrass Award honours "exceptional service to the Australian live performance industry shining a spotlight on people in service roles in a field which may not enjoy a high public profile." Mr Robinson has held the position of CEO of JPJ Audio and Jands Production Services since 1970 and has extensive experience in sound reinforcement, lighting, rigging, large screen projection and special effects and has been involved with major music events, festivals, and theatre works.
The Brian Stacey Award for Emerging Australian Conductors has been awarded to Jessica Gethin. Gethin started as a Conducting Intern with Western Australia Youth Orchestra and has garnered praised for her "dynamic energy, outstanding musicianship and abounding presence on the podium".INDUSTRY AWARDS

The Helpmann Awards are Australia's version of Broadway's Tony Awards and London's Olivier Awards. The annual awards recognise achievement in live performance including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, cabaret, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre. The awards were established in 2001 by Live Performance Australia to honour the memory and achievements of Sir Robert Helpmann. They promote, celebrate and recognise the live performance industry.
Sir Robert Helpmann (1909-1986), from Mount Gambier South Australia, is best known for his contribution to ballet as a dancer, choreographer and director was a stage film and television actor, a director of plays and operas and a singer. His choreography lives on through movies such as the 1948 THE RED SHOES and THE TALES OF HOFFMANN (1953). He held the position of Artistic Director at the Duchess Theatre, Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet for 11 years between 1965 and 1976 and Director of the Adelaide Festival of Arts from 1970-1976 amongst many other roles. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1964, Australian of the Year in 1966 and received his knighthood in 1968.Videos
