Currently running to sold out houses in Los Angeles is the world premier of Rick's adaptation of
I LOVE LUCY LIVE ON STAGE, that he also directs and stages. He's Co-Written/Produced as well as Directed several LA hit shows including THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY?, HIGHBALLS AHOY!, DEAD BRIDE RUNNING, and A CHARLIE BROWN COMMERCIAL CHRISTMAS.
Sparks has garnered some of his 16 Theatre Awards for the staging and direction of the aforementioned HORSES, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, DOWN SOUTH (NY and LA productions), the L.A. premier of PSYCHO BEACH PARTY, and smash hit DIVORCE, THE MUSICAL. The latter, along with SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE TOO! were simultaneously listed as LA Times Critics’ Choice.
This inspired the national entertainment magazine Backstage to call Sparks “One of five Stage ‘Directors You Ought To Know!” Other productions include last season’s long running Ovation recommended shows DADDY and TRIO, which also ran at the same time. Other favorites: THE NOTHING BOYS, (produced by TV’s “Entourage” producer Rob Weiss), Laguna Playhouse’s DON'T TALK TO THE ACTORS, CLUTTER by Mark Saltzman for the Colony Theatre, THAT PERFECT MOMENT, THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOLLYWOOD, TALLULAH, POETS GARDEN, INCONCEIVABLE, and the west coast premier of John Patrick Shanley's WHERE'S MY MONEY?
After years of regional shows as an actor, Rick he replaced Terry Mann on Broadway as Rum Tum Tugger in CATS, and then became a member of the Original First National Tour of LES MISERABLES. He was also in the original LA and Broadway casts of SUNSET BLVD. with Glenn Close.
