The Central Park Five by Anthony Davis, a world premiere commissioned and presented by Long Beach Opera on June 15th, 22nd and 23rd, explores the interrogation and coerced confessions of five teenagers wrongly convicted of a crime in New York City in the 1980's. The opera details their stories, including the profound effect their unjust prison sentences had on their young lives.

The latter is a CSULB group consisting of former inmates and family members of people who have served time.

Brand new artists' collective Opera by the Glass will present its contemporary interpretation of Vincenzo Bellini's famous tearjerker The Sleepwalker (La Sonnambula in Italian) at the Somis Thursday Club for two special performances on Friday, November 4, and Sunday, November 6, 2016 in the rural Ventura County town of Somis. The Sleepwalker's intensely psychological plot weaves together universal themes of jealousy and trust, loyalty and abandonment, friendship and love, madness and pain, and, ultimately, reconciliation and reunion.

An earthquake romance. A genre-defying song play. With a score by leading contemporary composer John Adams and a libretto by the late poet June Jordan, I was looking at the ceiling and then I saw the sky was written as an homage to the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Now, 20 years later, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission presents the Southern California premiere, performed by Long Beach Opera. LBO artistic director Andreas Mitisek conducts a concert staging at the Ford Amphitheatre on Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. as part of the Ford's Zev Yaroslavsky Signature Series.
