Disney’s THE LION KING celebrated 25 triumphant years in the West End’s Lyceum Theatre on the afternoon of Sunday, 20 October with a special gala performance attended by the original creatives of the show including Julie Taymor, Lebo M, Richard Hudson, Irene Mecchi, Roger Allers and Donald Holder. This October marks the 20th anniversary of The Lion King at London's Lyceum Theatre. Premiering way back in 1999, the show has entertained over 16 million people and remains the West End's bestselling stage production and the sixth-longest-running West End musical of all time. To celebrate the show's roaring success (pardon the pun), BroadwayWorld spoke with George Asprey, who plays Scar, about being the villain and why he feels the show is still so well loved after all these years.

It was just announced that he will play Joey, one of the lead roles in Paramour in Hamburg in 2019 and now it been announced that he will also be one of the singers at Disney's Broadway Hits at Royal Albert Hall the 1-2 of March 2019.

Today, the London production of THE LION KING welcomes 11 new cast members, including Janique Charles, Gary Jordan and Dominique Planter who take over the principal roles of 'Nala', 'Zazu' and 'Shenzi' respectively. Now in its 18th triumphant year, over 14 million people have seen Disney's award-winning musical at the Lyceum Theatre.

The London Eye received some special musical guests yesterday. Shaun Escoffery and Nick Afoa, who play Mufasa and Simba respectively in the West End production of The Lion King, sang a special version of 'He Lives In You' high above the River Thames, for a video published on The Lion King's Facebook page.

2016 has been a vintage year for Shaun Escoffery; critical acclaim for his new studio album, 'Evergreen', a sell-out UK tour including London's Union Chapel, performing at Wembley Arena as part of the World Cup '66 Live anniversary celebrations, and the Children In Need Terry Wogan Special.
