Fairport Convention co-founder and bassist Ashley Hutchings and legendary singer Sandy Denny parted ways with the group after their classic Liege And Leaf album. Hutchings recruited Tim Hart and Maddy Prior (an established folk duo) and Terry and Gay Woods, naming their new band after a character in the traditional song “Horkstow Grange.”

Portland, Oregon-based artist Kassi Valazza recently announced her sophomore full-length, Kassi Valazza Knows Nothing, which is set to release on May 26 via Fluff & Gravy Records (Margo Cilker, Anna Tivel) in North America and Loose Music (Andrew Combs, Courtney Marie Andrews) in the UK. The album features Samuel Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and the aria “Memorial de Tlatelolco” from John Adams’s El Niño – featuring London’s Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Christian Reif. Today, Louise Quinn and GATES OF LIGHT share 'Walk On,' the lead single off their upcoming LP. Gates Of Light is out March 26th on Shimmy-Disc. Brooklyn Vegan premiered the track, praising it as a '60sish pop number that sounds a little like a more folky Lulu.'

Irish music artist Jeannette Byrne has released her fourth album 'Women Of The One World'. Women Of The One World is a concept album that hosts a collection of covers from influential female artists of the 1960s and 1970s, many of whom continue their great work today. With songs from Buffy Sainte Marie, Joan Baez, Sandy Denny, Judy Collins and Laura Nyro, Jeannette Byrne draws inspiration from women who put themselves at the forefront of progressive movements. An established performer of the French chanson on sold-out stages across Europe, Jeannette has also performed widely across Irish national television and radio. In 1998, Jeannette Byrne's first EP 'Une Femme' was voted one of the top 5 records of the year by The Irish Times. 1999 saw the release of Jeannette's critically acclaimed first studio album 'Elegy' followed by her 2005 album 'Cafe Diva'.

Linda Thompson's career began in the much beloved late '60s/early '70s British folk-rock scene, when she went by the name Linda Peters. At first, she was mostly a session singer and a part of a short-lived duo with Paul McNeill with whom she released two singles, in 1968 and 1969. McNeill happened to be friends with Sandy Denny, and soon so was Linda. She became one of the “supergroup” of musician friends related to Fairport Convention for the 1972 The Bunch album, a side project of sorts that highlighted rock hits of the '50s. The album's single featured Linda and Sandy covering the Everly Brothers' “When Will I Be Loved.” Also in 1972 Linda married Richard Thompson; she and Sandy can be found in the credits for his solo debut, Henry the Human Fly. Beginning in 1974, albums started appearing by Richard & Linda Thompson, winding up with 1982's classic Shoot Out the Lights — which also signaled the end of their marriage.

After four widely heralded self-released albums, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Jessie Kilguss is clearly on the verge of gaining the wider recognition she so decidedly deserves. Her mood-affecting melodies reflect an artist who consistently proves herself remarkably adept at expressing a wide array of interests and emotions that stir the senses through both her vocals and in her verse.
