The Oak Park Festival Theatre, Oak Park's premiere Equity theatre and the oldest professional classical theatre in the Midwest, has announced the cast and creative team for its summer show, William Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, opening July 15.

Collaboraction, an ethno-diverse, social justice theater company that uses theater and digital media to incite change and grow equity in Chicago, has a turbo-charged 26th season of art and social activism lined up for 2022-23. 

“A Doll's House, Part 2,” Lucas Hnath's “smart, funny and utterly engrossing” (New York Times) play revisiting the central characters of Henrik Ibsen's 1879 original, will be the final production of the Hampton Theatre Company's 2021-2022 season, opening on May 26 at the Quogue Community Hall and running through June 12.

The House Theatre of Chicago will launch its 20th Anniversary Season with an all-new wintertime tradition, a boldly reimagined staging of Hans Christian Anderson’s beloved fable, The Snow Queen, November 17-January 2 at Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., Chicago.

Although Goodman Theatre is now producing A CHRISTMAS CAROL for the 42nd year, and although I have seen the production four times myself, it still has an immense capacity to tug at the heartstrings. While the Goodman's production has few surprises to reveal for repeat viewers at this point, the emotions of delight and humor I experienced on opening night reminded me why this production feels magical for so many. And because I attended the show with a first-time viewer, it was particularly special to share the Goodman's brand of holiday joy.

Due to popular demand, Steppenwolf Theatre Company has added seven more performances to the run of MS. BLAKK FOR PRESIDENT. Now playing through July 21, this new work was conceived of and directed by ensemble member Tina Landau (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) and created by ensemble members Tina Landau and Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight, Academy Award).

While MS. BLAKK FOR PRESIDENT's narrative flounders in certain points, the play's integrity never flounders. Watching the play unfold, there's no denying the relevance of the issues that Blakk faced in 1992 to today's society. But the play brilliantly conveys that resonance while also still maintaining a light-hearted and celebratory tone worthy of the story that it portrays.
