Lear: That Old Man I Used To Know, a new play based on Shakespeare's King Lear, is currently in performances at A.R.T/New York Theatres - Gural Theatre - 3rd Floor (502 W. 53rd Street, between 10th and 11th) for a limited engagement through September 22. The opening is Sunday, September 8. Lear: That Old Man I Used To Know is adapted and directed by Beth Ann Hopkins (Enemy; The Tempest) with musical direction and arrangements by Elliot Roth (Our Sinatra; resident composer- Jeff Davis Dance), and is produced by Smith Street Stage.

Smith Street Stage will present its first full-length off-Broadway show in September with Lear's Shadow, an original adaptation by Ms. Hopkins of Shakespeare's King Lear. Directed by Beth Ann Hopkins with original music by Elliot Roth, Lear's Shadow will perform September 5th through 22nd at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theater at the A.R.T./New York Theatres on West 53rd St.

Smith Street Stage (Beth Ann Hopkins, founding Artistic Director), the award-winning Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn-based theatre company, announced its planned tenth season for 2019. Among the productions planned are the tenth consecutive mounting of its cornerstone Shakespeare in Carroll Park production (an outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by Shaun Bennet Fauntleroy), and the company's first foray into long-running indoor theatre in Manhattan (Lear's Shadow, an original production devised by Beth Ann Hopkins and Elliot Roth from Shakespeare's King Lear, running at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre).
