BWW Review: MATILDA THE MUSICAL is Family Fun in San Antonio
Matilda is a beloved story written by Roald Dahl and enjoyed by children all over the world. It's hugely popular story led Dennis Kelly to adapt the story and Tim Minchin to pen the music and lyrics for MATILDA THE MUSICAL. As it first premiered in in UK in 2010, MATILDA THE MUSICAL made its way to the United States and Broadway to debut in 2013. With the huge success in the UK and US, the show went on to tour in the US in 2015. This family-friendly show is making its way across the country and continues to entertain audience members from three to one hundred.
BWW Interview: Darcy Stewart as Mrs. Wormwood in MATILDA THE MUSICAL on Tour
Have you ever looked back on your childhood and wished you could do things differently? Have you known people who had less than perfect childhoods? Bullying and parental neglect are just part of poor Matilda's young life as she tries to find her way. MATILDA THE MUSICAL is a family-fun show and is currently touring around North America.
BWW Interview: Darcy Stewart, Matt Harrington of MATILDA THE MUSICAL at Fox Theatre-'Not all heroes wear capes.'
"Passionate, inspiring, witty, dark, and playful" are words actress Darcy Stewart uses to describe MATILDA THE MUSICAL, which is coming to Atlanta's Fox Theatre on April 18-23, 2017. Stewart plays Mrs. Wormwood, an antagonist who is obsessed with salsa dancing. In the number "Loud" she gets shows off her choreography skills, however, the scene is based off the controversial notion that "looks are more important than books."
"It [Matilda] is more vulgar than what people expect. People think "Matilda" as a show about this little five-year-old, but it's actually darker than that. There's a lot of things that kids won't understand, like bullying and verbal child abuse. It speaks a lot about honesty and fighting for what you believe in, even if you're a kid," Stewart explains.
BWW Review: MATILDA THE MUSICAL Is Magic At ASU Gammage
While Matilda the Musical is silly, it is by no means lighthearted--rather, it is full of dark twists, and strong social messages about the cruelty of society, and the imagination that suffers because of it.
The national tour of Matilda the Musical is based off of the classic children's novel by Roald Dahl, with book by Dennis Kelly and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
BWW Review: Fun and Cheeky MATILDA - The Musical Amuses at Segerstrom Center
MATILDA - THE MUSICAL, overall, is genuinely a fun time. It's a cheeky, kid-friendly (and, really, kid-catering) stage musical that has plenty for both kids and their parents to enjoy together. Featuring lively songs by Tim Michin and a witty, yet easily digestible book by Dennis Kelly, MATILDA - THE MUSICAL celebrates how one adorable, truly likable kid ---who, sure, may seem a little odd and different---can overcome a troubled environment and still come out the other side a remarkably self-assured, open-minded, and kind-hearted young lady who can fully distinguish right from wrong---while having a bit of naughty fun along the way. The national touring company of the just recently closed Broadway musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's novel continues through January 29 in Costa Mesa.
