BWW Feature: Crafting a Revelation - Behind THE TAROT READING
Two years ago, lying on a couch in the #9 Lounge at the Evening Star Cafe in Alexandria, VA, I was eulogized. I had watched other audience members receive secret family recipes, help rehearse a marriage proposal, even destroy a speed limit sign with a hammer. But the card I drew was Death. So, naturally, I was eulogized in front of the rest of the audience. The thing my funeral had in common with all these other short vignettes was the sense that, without my involvement, none of this could happen. I mattered. When it was done, I opened my eyes, took the flower offered to me, and found my seat. The oration was by Quill Nebeker, my Medium for the evening.
THE TAROT READING Returns, Stages Most Ambitious & Innovative Show Yet
The Tarot Reading announces their fifth and most exciting production yet, Tarot V. The Tarot Reading is a variety show where eclectic artists devise acts inspired by the Tarot. Each is interactive, performed for and with one adventurous (and consenting) audience member. What happens next can be almost anything--past acts have included belly dancing, stage magic, lip-sync battles, professional wrestling and more. Tarot V will run May 9-26, the show's longest run yet.
BWW Review: Rorschach Theatre Presents Creative, Compelling 410[GONE]
It seemed unlikely to me that a play set in a fantastical arcade, complete with the old favorite Dance Dance Revolution, would be able to stir deep emotions in an audience. But Rorschach Theatre's impactful production of Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's 410[GONE], directed by Gregory Keng Strasser, does just that. It uses unlikely imagery to tell a highly personal but universal story of trauma and recovery.
410[GONE] to Play Rorschach Theatre
Rorschach's dark wit and visionary approach to design have met their match in Frances Ya-Chu Cowhig's sharp, fantastical adventure through the Chinese Land of the Dead - coming to Atlas Performing Arts Center March 23 - April 15.
Neil Gaiman's NEVERWHERE Comes to Rorschach Theatre
Rorschach Theatre announces the cast and designers for its revival of NEVERWHERE (2013), Robert Kauzlaric's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's modern cult classic about a man who stumbles upon adventure in a dangerous and magical world that exists below the streets of London. The ensemble cast will include returning cast members Sarah Taurchini as Door and Daniel Corey as Richard Mayhew. The design team will include cutting-edge set and projections design collective Pixelumen Lab.
The Klunch Presents A Staged Reading of THE BOOK OF LIZ
The Klunch presents this benefit performance, followed by a reception, and a game of Pounce - a Mormon family card game that has become a tradition with Klunch company members. Drinks, music, and other forms of gaiety, all to support the Klunch's 2017 programming.
dog & pony dc's A KILLING GAME Heads to Capital Fringe and Beyond, Beg. Today
dog & pony dc will present a 'second edition' of their original play, A Killing Game, in conjunction with Washington, DC's Capital Fringe Festival in July of 2013. An absurdist-play-meets-party-game that The Washington Post noted 'the gratification is immediate' and dubbed it 'more Airplane than Andromeda Strain,' A Killing Game promises audiences the most fun they'll ever have dying. The show, and the game within it, begins with the outbreak of a deadly disease. Audience and performers together play along in series of scenes, contests, and songs led by game show host, Mr. Chrome, and the seductive but elusive 'Our Friend in Black.'
