Picturing Mississippi, 1817 2017: Land of Plenty, Pain, and Promise, the landmark exhibition exploring Mississippi identity, commemorates the 200th anniversary of Mississippi's statehood. Illuminating the perception and depiction of Mississippi over more than 200 years, the exhibition showcases 175 works by 100 artists who either resided in the state, visited, or lived elsewhere and were compelled to respond to a multiplicity of subjects. From Choctaw objects and sweeping landscapes to portraiture and contemporary work, the exhibition reveals that Mississippi has continuously resonated with artists in powerful ways as lived experience, memory, and imagination.

LA Master Chorale Releases First All-Digital Album of Signature A Cappella Works
The Los Angeles Master Chorale (LAMC), following on the heels of its wildly successful and critically applauded 50th Anniversary Season opening night concert, has released its first all-digital album featuring 17 of its signature a cappella works conducted by Music Director Grant Gershon and recorded live at that historic concert on September 22, 2013, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The album, entitled '50th Season Celebration Concert,' celebrates the most beloved, groundbreaking and inspiring a cappella works that have defined the Los Angeles Master Chorale and its music directors over the past 50 years. Museum of the Moving Image to Host 'MASSA GAZE,' 2/1
In response to the interest and discussion surrounding the recent releases of 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Django Unchained (2012), Museum of the Moving Image will present Massa' Gaze: Screenings and Critical Discussions of the Depictions of Slavery in Film and Television. The event, on Saturday, February 1, from 1:00 to 8:30 p.m., opens with a rare screening of Solomon Northup's Odyssey, Gordon Parks's 1984 film adaptation of Northup's memoir (the same source material as 12 Years a Slave), and closes with Burn!, Gillo Pontecorvo's 1969 film about a Caribbean slave rebellion starring Marlon Brando.
