BIO

William H. Macy is a highly respected American actor, director, and writer. Born on March 13, 1950, in Miami, Florida, Macy grew up in Georgia and Maryland before attending Goddard College in Vermont. He later studied theater at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York City.


Macy's Broadway debut came in 1983 in the play "American Buffalo" by David Mamet. He also appeared in Mamet's "Oleanna" in 1992. In addition to his work on stage, Macy has had a successful career in film and television.
Macy's breakthrough role came in the 1996 film "Fargo," for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He has since appeared in numerous films, including "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," "Seabiscuit," and "The Cooler," for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
In addition to his film work, Macy has also had a successful career on television. He played Dr. David Morgenstern on the hit medical drama "ER" from 1994 to 2009. He also starred in the critically acclaimed Showtime series "Shameless" as Frank Gallagher, a role which earned him four Primetime Emmy nominations.
Macy has also directed several films, including "Rudderless" and "The Layover," both of which he also co-wrote. He has also directed episodes of "Shameless" and the television movie "Door to Door," for which he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special.
Throughout his career, Macy has been recognized for his talent and contributions to the entertainment industry. In addition to his Oscar and Emmy nominations, he has received a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics' Choice Television Award.
Most recently, Macy has continued his role as Frank Gallagher in the 11th and final season of "Shameless." He has also appeared in the films "Krystal" and "The Layover," both of which he directed and co-wrote.
