Will Berger is a renaissance man on a mission. When he's not lecturing on classical music and opera, or writing the commentaries for the Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius, or co-hosting the live Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts, or producing (and writing) the broadcasts' Met Opera Quiz, or writing books (Wagner Without Fear (1998), Verdi With a Vengeance (2000), Puccini Without Excuses (2005), all published by Random House) he's writing the libretto for a new Jazz Metal Opera! Â

Today, the Metropolitan Opera announced its 2020-21 season, the first in which Yannick Nézet-Séguin assumes his full breadth of musical duties as the company's Jeanette Lerman-Neubauer Music Director, conducting six productions. His schedule includes the Met premiere of Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking, the first contemporary opera conducted by the maestro on the Met stage, as part of his ongoing commitment to opera of our time at the Met, which will expand in the seasons to come.

Handel's Berenice returns to Covent Garden in a new co-production by The Royal Opera and London Handel Festival, nearly 282 years after its 1737 premiere at the Covent Garden Theatre, a forerunner to the Royal Opera House. Staged in the Royal Opera House's Linbury Theatre, the West's End's newest and most intimate theatre, the new production is directed by Adele Thomas and sung in a new English translation by Selma Dimitrijevic.

Of note, Broadway star Kelli O'Hara is set to return to the Met in Così fan tutte this season.
