BIO
Vickie Ramirez is a Tuscarora playwright and alum of the Public Theater’s Emerging Writer’s Group 2009. She is a member of Chukalokoli Native Theater Ensemble and Amerinda Theater. Plays include: Tobacco is Sacred-That’s Why It Kills You, Standoff at Hwy#37, Smoke, Ashes, Humans, The Varlettes vs. the Space Rock, Case 24: Roswell, NM and Leona by the Bayou. Screenplays include: MonkeyDog, Rachel vs. The Little Warriors and Lotto Munney. Honors: 2009/2010 NYC Urban Artists Fellowship, 2010 NYSCA Individual Artist Award. Her work has been presented at The Flea, The Public Theater, Amerinda, The Roundabout Theater’s Different Voices Program, Ensemble StudioTheater, BOO-Arts, Mixed Phoenix Theater Company,and the 52nd Street Project. She was also recently featured at Ohio Northern University’s Ninth Annual Theatre Festival.

JaMeeka Holloway and UGBA Receive Founders' and Pfaelzer Awards and Indigenous Voices Residency Announced
New York Stage and Film announced UGBA as the 2023 recipient of the Founders’ Award and JaMeeka Holloway as the recipient of this year’s Pfaelzer Award. The NYSAF summer season at Marist College, which begins July 14 and runs to August 6, will also include the creation of the Indigenous Voices of the Northeast Residency.

The Yale Indigenous Performing Arts Program (YIPAP) is currently accepting submissions for both the 8th Annual Young Native Playwrights Contest (Deadline: March 1), and the 3rd Annual Misty Upham Award for Young Native Actors (Deadline: Feb 28th). Native artists 25 and under are eligible to submit to both awards.

Pure Native is the story of a Haudenosaunee community, written by Haudenosaunee playwright Vickie Ramirez, and stars two Haudenosaunee actors, with costumes by a noted Haudenosaunee fashion designer, Iakowi:he'ne' Oakes.
