A major new exhibition at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust opens today. The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do offers an expansive and timely presentation of Holocaust history told through personal stories, objects, photos, and film-many on view for the first time.

Written by Kevin Olson and Soviet émigré Bena Shklyanoy and based on her life story, the performance captures a Kiev family's agonizing decision in 1976 to flee the Soviet Union for America and the challenging adjustment period that followed.

Embarrassed and confused about her identity and how to support herself financially, she seeks advice from a trusted older couple, who help her find independence, self-esteem and eventually love through her skill as a baker.
