Author Nell Painter Appointed Chair Of MacDowell Colony

Nell Painter, the author of The New York Times bestseller The History of White People and the 2018 National Book Critics Circle Award finalist Old In Art School, is The MacDowell Colony's new chairman of the board. She takes over from novelist and screenwriter Michael Chabon, who has held the post of chairman at one the nation's leading contemporary arts organizations since December of 2010. The board unanimously appointed Painter at a meeting earlier this month.
Mark Morris Will Be Honored By The New York Landmarks Conservancy At 2019 Living Landmarks Celebration

On November 6, 2019, The New York Landmarks Conservancy will host its 26th Living Landmarks Celebration at The Plaza. In addition to Mark Morris, this year's honorees are Carole Bailey French, Ted Mathas, H. Carl McCall, Emily K. Rafferty and Barbara & Donald Tober. The following previous honorees will also be involved: David Patrick Columbia as host, Peter Duchin and his Orchestra will provide entertainment, and Liz & Jeff Peek and Patsy & Jeff Tarr as Honorary Co-Chairs for the evening. More than 500 guests are expected to attend this 26th annual tribute.
Carnegie Hall Launches New Digital Collections Preview Of Select Archival Collections

Carnegie Hall today announced the launch of its new online Digital Collections, inviting the general public to search, explore, and download more than 80,000 recently digitized historic items from its archives for the very first time. This initial preview, drawn from the Hall's legacy collections, offers a window into the richly diverse history of events at the Hall since its opening in 1891, with an emphasis on the Hall's earliest decades. It includes Carnegie Hall concert programs from 1891–1925; flyers; photographs; correspondence; newspaper clippings; autographs; booking ledger pages; and a select number of promotional films. The goal of this digital initiative is to provide broader public access to the Hall's archival collections, providing a new way for people to engage with Carnegie Hall's history and share it with others.

The event raised $1.1 million to support The New Jewish Home, one of the nation's largest and most diversified nonprofit older adult health care systems, providing rehabilitation, skilled nursing and health care programs, which serves 12,000 older adults of all faiths and ethnicities annually.
