BIO

Trazana Beverley is an American actress best known for her work on stage. Born in Mississippi in 1951, Beverley grew up in the South before moving to New York City to pursue her passion for acting. She began her career in the theater, and quickly made a name for herself as a talented performer.
Beverley's Broadway debut came in 1976, when she appeared in the original production of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf. The play, written by Ntozake Shange, was a groundbreaking work that explored the experiences of black women in America. Beverley's performance was widely praised, and she was awarded a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
Following her success in For Colored Girls, Beverley continued to work in the theater, appearing in a number of productions both on and off Broadway. She appeared in the original Broadway productions of The Mighty Gents and The Poison Tree, as well as the off-Broadway productions of The First Breeze of Summer and The Talented Tenth.
In addition to her work on stage, Beverley has also appeared in a number of films and television shows. She made her film debut in 1979, appearing in the movie The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh. She has also appeared in the films Beloved, The Hurricane, and The Treatment, among others.
On television, Beverley has appeared in a number of popular shows, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Cosby Show, and The Sopranos. She also had a recurring role on the soap opera One Life to Live.
Throughout her career, Beverley has been recognized for her talent and contributions to the arts. In addition to her Tony Award, she has received numerous other honors, including an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award. She has also been inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.
Beverley's most recent work includes a role in the off-Broadway production of The Public Theater's Mobile Unit production of Hamlet in 2018.
