Second show this spring at the Shawnee Mission Park Theatre In The Park, is ANASTASIA, a 2017 fairy tale based on a wished-for result concerning the Russian Grand Duchess Anatasia. This, in turn, was based on an earlier 1997 animated film and an even earlier imagining in a 1956 film.
ANASTASIA the Musical is fortunate to have found some super voices for all its lead roles.

Review: INTO THE WOODS at White Theatre
by Alan Portner - Oct 31, 2023
Imagine the Grimm bedtime stories presented on steroids buttressed by the occasional homage to animated motion picture favorites. This is the basic recipe for “Into The Woods,” an imaginative and odd musical mashup of the Grimm’s tales with music, libretto, and lyrics from Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine performed at the Jewish Community Center’s fine White Theatre.

Review: IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS at Theatre In The Park
by Alan Portner - Jul 18, 2023
Shawnee Mission Park’s “Theatre in the Park,” marks the season with an oddly appropriate July production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.” The item up for view and review is a very nice production of Irving Berlin classic songs and the familiar tale based on a 1954 movie of the same name. There is significantly more Irving Berlin music in the staged musical than in the 1954 film.

Nick Padgett, Producing Artistic Director of Padgett Productions presents LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, through August 21 at the Warwick Theatre in the Westport Entertainment District. This production is one of the best to hit the stage in Kansas City this year. I know when I left the theater I could still hear the songs in my head, and it continued for several joyous days.

BWW Review: SWEENEY TODD, DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET at The Warwick Theatre
by Steve Wilson - Jun 13, 2022
The Warwick Theatre, in the Westport Entertainment District, plays host to Padgett Productions' opening of SWEENEY TODD, THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET through June 26. The Stephen Sondheim musical is one of the most elaborate productions I have ever seen Nick Padgett undertake, and he brings it to life with unmatched brilliance. The only regret anyone should have about this magnificent show is if you miss seeing it at The Warwick.
