Venice Theatre Presents Area Premiere Of MAMMA MIA!
Venice Theatre's MainStage Series will present the ABBA-themed musical Mamma Mia! Friday Oct. 25, 2019 through Sunday Dec. 1, 2019. Tuesday through Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m. Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. During the week of Thanksgiving, there will be no shows on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Thursday, Nov. 28. There is no evening show on Saturday, Nov. 30 due to the Venice Holiday Parade. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee on that day instead.
Venice Theatre Opens 70th MainStage Season With BORN YESTERDAY
Born Yesterday opens Venice Theatre's 70th MainStage Season on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019. It will keep audiences laughing through Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019. Performances are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets begin at $27 for adults, $17 for college students, and $15 for youth through 12th grade. BWW Review: HONK at Venice Theatre Full of Family Fun
Venice Theatre is kicking the summer off right with its fun, energetic production of Honk. This Anthony Drewe and George Stiles musical based on the story of the Ugly Duckling, reminds us that it is alright to be different. Honk follows Ugly in his journey to find himself and a place of belonging. Seen as an outcast by his siblings and his father, Drake, Ugly is befriended by the Cat whose sole ambition is to eat Ugly.
'John and Jen' Musical Opens Ritz Theatre 2019 Season Starring Dennis Clark and Kristen Gehling
The 2019 Ritz Theatre season will open with 'John & Jen' at 7:35 p.m. April 4-6 and at 2 p.m., April 7 at the Ritz Theatre, 111 W. Third St., Sheffield. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students.
'John & Jen' is a musical with music by Andrew Lippa, lyrics by Tom Greenwald, and book by Lippa and Greenwald. Lippa went on to write the music and lyrics for the stage musicals 'Wild Party', 'The Addams Family' and 'Big Fish.'

Venice Theatre will present the dramatic musical Blood Brothers opening Thursday, March 30, 2017 running through Sunday, April 23, 2017. This gripping story by British playwright Willy Russell (also known for Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine) concerns twin brothers who are separated at birth, with one raised in wealth and the other in poverty.
DM Playhouse Announces Dionysos Award Winners
The Des Moines Community Playhouse held the 2014 Dionysos Awards on Sunday, July 27. The theatre honored 18 backstage, front-of-house, and education volunteers, and announced 10 acting award winners.
DM Playhouse to Offer Winter Break Theatre Workshops, 12/23-31
For young people who love theatre, the Des Moines Community Playhouse is holding five days of workshops over winter break. Students in grades 1-6 will have opportunities to explore different aspects of the theatre, including movement, improvisation, and even Shakespeare. Students in grades 7-12 will have a unique opportunity to work with Playhouse professionals to receive technical theatre certification. Workshops are 9:00 AM-4:00 PM daily, Dec. 23, 26, 27, 30, and 31. Before and after care are available.
