BWW Review: ESCAPE FROM PELIGRO ISLAND at Imagination Stage
One of the most important parts in a child's development is the power of choice. Presenting children with options engages their minds and allows them to take ownership. This is the driving idea behind Escape from Peligro Island, the latest offering from Imagination Stage. It's their first production using a choose-your-own-adventure element - every time our hero Callaway (Dallas Tolentino) is presented with a choice, the audience is asked to vote by holding up paddles - one side blue, one side red. As evidenced by their press performance this weekend, it's a fruitful device on both an artistic and marketing level - with 70 different ways the show can go, the possibilities are nearly endless.

BWW Review: Hub Theatre's THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH Rounds out an Excellent Season
If you're looking for new, compelling, finely-crafted plays, look no further than the Hub Theatre. Their recently-concluded run of Philip Dawkins' autobiographical tour-de-force The Happiest Place on Earth is more evidence, as if any were needed, that they are a company to be reckoned with on the Washington theatre scene. Not only do they have an unerring eye for innovative scripts, they know how to give their playwrights the high-value productions they deserve.
BWW Review: FROM THE MOUTHS OF MONSTERS Makes Powerful Premiere at the Kennedy Center
Inspired by (but not literally adapted from) Mary Shelley's 200-year-old novel Frankenstein, Idris Goodwin's FROM THE MOUTHS OF MONSTERS makes a powerful world premiere at the Kennedy Center's Family Theater. A two-actor play starring Shannon Dorsey and Tia Shearer in energetic, flexible roles, it sports a cool, contemporary aesthetic and impeccable sound design (Christopher Baine) - important for a play that's all about a teenager's discovery of the weight of words.
