Hatty King, Nathan Keffer Head to Jimmy Awards After Spotlight Award Wins
Hatty King of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville and Nathan Keffer of Ravenwood High School in Brentwood took home top honors at the 2017 Spotlight Awards - held Saturday night at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall - winning "Best Actress" and "Best Actor" awards respectively. The two travel to New York next month to compete nationally in the Jimmy Awards on June 26.
2017 Spotlight Award Nominees Announced
As Tony Award nominations were being revealed on Tuesday to honor productions and performances during the 2016-17 season, organizers of The 2017 Spotlight Awards - honoring the best in high school musical theater throughout Middle Tennessee - were tallying scores and assembling all the names of nominees for the awards presentation to be held Saturday, May 13, at Andrew Johnson Hall at Nashville's Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

Middle Tennessee's growing high school theater scene was in the spotlight over the weekend as Lipscomb University's Department of Theatre - under the direction of dance professor Kari Smith and dean of the College of Entertainment and the Arts Mike Fernandez - hosted the third annual Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards.

At 7 p.m. on Monday evening, March 2, with every seat in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater occupied, almost 400 chorus members from 7 to 18 from the Young People's Chorus of New York City streamed on stage and filled the balcony boxes above. Joining them was the evening's host, Broadway star Norm Lewis, and in the pit YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. The Young People's Chorus of New York City will hold its annual fund-raising gala at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m. YPC Artistic Director Francisco J. Nuñez and the chorus are excited to welcome The New York Pops and three award-winning stars of the Broadway stage - Norm Lewis, Allison Blackwell, and Douglas Hodge - in an unforgettable showcase of magic, swing, and the kinds of spectacular, fully choreographed production numbers YPC galas are known for.

The Young People's Chorus of New York City, founded in 1988 by Artistic Director and MacArthur 'genius' Fellow Francisco J. Nuñez on a mission of diversity and artistic excellence, celebrates its next 25 years with a gala benefit concert at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, followed by a festive dinner at the Mandarin Oriental. It all begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014, with all proceeds benefitting the almost 1,400 children, ages 7 to 18, in YPC's award-winning after-school and in-school programs.
