Hickoids Celebrate 40 Years of Chaos With Tour and New LP
In 2024, marking their 40th anniversary, the Hickoids are set to release a highly anticipated studio album, 'More Ballads For Sleazy Riders'. This LP, recorded in Barcelona, Tupelo, and San Antonio, promises to deliver more vintage Hickoids voltage. Additionally, the band will be embarking on a tour, starting in May. See dates here!

An evening of two halves, this BBC Proms event saw Nottingham (which is geographically more North than South, so let’s forget for a moment that it’s in the midlands) was repped by four-piece band Divorce. Then, Rotherham-born Self-Esteem - or Rebecca Lucy Taylor, a seedling national treasure – performed an hour-long set “with some surprises”, primarily performing her own work with new arrangements by Colin Elliot.

BWW Feature: A DAY OF ACTION - a Collaboration with the University Musical Society and Yo-Yo Ma!
The residents of Flint and Ann Arbor, Michigan were treated to a very special event because of the University Musical Society (UMS): Yo-Yo Ma visited as part the performer's two-year journey to perform Six Suites for Solo Cello as a catalyst for social action and it marks the first time Ma extended the model beyond the Bach Project to a broader audience. Ma's visit was two-days filled of activities including a talk by him in the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium on 'Culture, Understanding, and Survival,' as well as a Day of Action in Flint, Michigan with the theme, 'Flint Voices: Culture, Community, and Resilience.' At the Day of Action, Ma worked with community partners to transform lives and forge both a more connected world and a healthy and vibrant local community with the goal of the session to find new opportunities for collaborations across Flint's cultural communities and organizations. The strategy session was followed up by a community cultural show that was a celebration of Flint's vitality, diversity, and artistry. BroadwayWorld Detroit had a chance to speak with two of people heavily involved in brining Yo-Yo Ma and his Day of Action event to Michigan - Jim Leija (director of education & community engagement for UMS) and Natasha Thomas-Jackson (Flint-based arts advocate). Cellist Yo-Yo Ma To Host Day Of Action In Flint, Give Talk In Ann Arbor
The University Musical Society (UMS) is pleased to announce a visit to Michigan by cellist Yo-Yo Ma that will take place February 27-28, 2019 in Ann Arbor and Flint. This special visit builds on the performer's two-year journey to perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Six Suites for Solo Cello as a catalyst for social action, and it marks the first time Ma is extending the model beyond the Bach Project to engage a broader audience. The activities include a talk in the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium on 'Culture, Understanding, and Survival' as well as a 'Day of Action' in Flint, MI, with the theme 'Flint Voices: Culture, Community, and Resilience.' This day-long set of activities will bring together 50 Flint-based community leaders for a working session on cultural collaboration for social change led by Yo-Yo Ma, as well as a Community Cultural Showcase celebrating Flint's past and future, which is open to the public.

Cynthia-Reeves Announces Thomas Jackso Artist Reception

DURHAM STATION Portrays a Coming of Age Drama
The American Civil War, which raged from 1861 until 1865, brought about the end of slavery and the demise of the secessionist Confederacy. Abraham Lincoln's historic declaration of the Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves, and finally put an end to that sordid chapter of American history. 'Durham Station' is set within this decisive period of time, as author Thomas Jackson Hawes depicts the lives of two Southern families who stood against slavery and racism in their own way.
