BIO
Founded in 1941 by Robert Shaw, The Chorale has established a preeminent reputation for its interpretations of the traditional choral repertoire, vocal works by American composers, rarely heard operas-in-concert, and commissions and premieres of new works.
Led by Music Director James Bagwell, the 170 singers of The Collegiate Chorale perform regularly at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and other performing arts venues throughout New York City. The Chorale has recently shared the stage with Stephanie Blythe, Victoria Clark, Christine Ebersole, Barbara Frittoli, Nathan Gunn, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Bryn Terfel, and Deborah Voigt.
Last season’s highlights include Kurt Weill's and Maxwell Anderson's Knickerbocker Holiday featuring Kelli O'Hara and Victor Garber and Something Wonderful: An Evening of Broadway with Deborah Voigt, featuring special guest Paulo Szot and guest conductor Ted Sperling.
Strongly committed to Education, The Chorale provides high-school students from underserved communities with the opportunity to rehearse and perform under the mentorship of Chorale members in its Side-by-Side program. In addition to its performances in New York, The Chorale has just returned from its fifth appearance at the Verbier Festival, and will perform with the Israel Philharmonic in Israel and Salzburg in July 2012.
