Marya Zimmet has tried retirement, but she’s feeling the need to bring complication and artistic expression back into her life. So, she’s diving back into the New York cabaret scene with not to just one club, but two. On 11/11 she’ll appear at Don’t Tell Mama. The next day, on 11/12, she’ll be at Pangea. We spoke about the upcoming shows.

Multi-grammy award-winning vocalist Kurt Elling has released a video for his rendition of Fred Hersch and Norma Winstone’s “A Wish (Valentine),” featuring Cécile McLorin Salvant. The song is taken from Wildflowers, Vol. 1, a brand new, spur-of-the-moment album spontaneously created with pianist Sullivan Fortner.

The title is from Billy Strayhorn's Lotus Blossom which has lyrics written by New York lyricist Roger Schore and jazz vocalist Carol Sloane. Bar Thalia, a narrow, uber-casual bar/café adjacent to the Upper West Side arts hub Symphony Space, has become the musical pied-à-terre of vocalist Marcus Goldhaber. Each first Sunday of the month, the artist presents two loosey-goosey acoustic sets with a guest singer and guitarist. The past Sunday's show featured vocalist Tessa Souter with Tony Romano on guitar.

All Nite Soul, the Jazz Ministry at Saint Peter's will honor pianist Barry Harris and vocalist Sheila Jordan. All Nite Soul begins on Sunday, October 13 at 5 PM with Jazz Vespersand pianist/organist Sarah McLawler and Les Jazz Femmes, and goes into full swing at 7 PM with a concert of over 80 musicians honoring Barry Harris (pianist) and Sheila Jordan (vocalist), National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters who began their musical careers in Detroit, Michigan.
