ADK Shakespeare Returns To Tread The Boards This Summer

After a year of suspended operations, the Adirondack Shakespeare Company returns with a week of performances this summer from July 31-August 4. This year's festival season is centered around magic, mystery, and mischief. A company of 8 professional actors will perform festival favorites Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream from the shores of Lake George and Schroon Lake to an idyllic farm in Essex.

Since 2010, the Adirondack Shakespeare Company has been serving up a world-class Summer Festival Season in upstate New York with professional productions of classical plays and original works for children. This year in addition to its regular line-up, the Company is adding an Arts & Crafts Workshop to its children play, Songs of the Iroquois: Turtle Island thanks to an ongoing fundraiser through Adirondack Gives.

Although the weather can't seem to make up its mind about what season it is, Adirondack Shakespeare Company is full-swing into summer mode. But they're aiming high at a new change to this year's children's programming: an Arts & Crafts Workshop to pair with this year's original play, Songs of the Iroquois: Turtle Island. A fundraising campaign seeking $1,000 just went live on Adirondack Gives, and the group is looking to raise the full amount before the start of their Summer Festival Season on July 9.

Instead of three mainstage repertory productions and a children's show (which has been the company's norm), ADK Shakes is focusing their efforts on touring a new children's show, producing a staged reading of Much Ado About Nothing, and performing a lively collection of scenes, sonnets, and songs adapted from Shakespeare entitled The Course of True Love.

The Adirondack Shakespeare Company announced this week that their upcoming productions of 1,2,3 Henry VI and Richard III would not only be an opportunity to experience Shakespeare's portrayal of the War of the Roses, but a chance to lend support to modern day war veterans, through the company's sponsorship of the IAVA (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America).
