The winners of the 2017 BroadwayWorld Israel Regional Awards were announced this weelend, including big wins for the Israeli production of the musical Hairspray and for Beit Lessin Theatre and Habima Theatre. It didn't take long for the reactions from both winners and other nominees to arrive.

The 2017 awards honor productions which opened between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017. Nominations were completely reader-submitted and after the nomination period ended October 31, BroadwayWorld's local editors proofed the list for eligibility and errors.

HAIRSPRAY will open tonight at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv! It will close on October 8, and is scheduled to continue its tour around the country. HAIRSPRAY premiered on Broadway in 2002 and ran until 2009. The show received twelve Tony Award nominations, and won eight, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
