Susan Watson is an American actress and singer who has made a name for herself in the world of theater. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1941, Watson began performing at a young age and went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
Watson made her Broadway debut in 1959 in the musical comedy "The Music Man," playing the role of Amaryllis. She went on to appear in several other Broadway productions, including "Bye Bye Birdie," "Carnival!," and "Ben Franklin in Paris."
In 1963, Watson originated the role of Kim MacAfee in the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" and received critical acclaim for her performance. She also appeared in the film adaptation of the musical, which was released the following year.
Watson continued to work in theater throughout the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in productions of "The Fantasticks," "The Grass Harp," and "No, No, Nanette." She also made appearances on television shows such as "The Ed Sullivan Show," "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," and "The Merv Griffin Show."
In 1978, Watson returned to Broadway to star in the musical "They're Playing Our Song," which was written by Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager. The show was a hit and ran for over a year, earning Watson a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.
After "They're Playing Our Song," Watson continued to work in theater, appearing in productions of "Little Shop of Horrors," "Follies," and "Gypsy." She also worked as a voice actress, lending her voice to several animated television shows and films.
In recent years, Watson has continued to work in theater, appearing in regional productions of "A Little Night Music" and "Grey Gardens." She also made a guest appearance on the television show "The Good Wife" in 2014.
