Summer Stern began acting professionally at the age of nine. Her professional debut as the young British orphan Flora in THE INNOCENTS drew critical praise for her "dedication and professionalism of a seasoned actor" and "traveling the stage with absolute confidence" in addition to praising her "spot-on [British] accent and phrasing." Summer followed up that role with a show-stopping, scene-stealing performance as Time/Girl in EVERYBODY By BRANDON JACOBS JENKINS that drew the attention of the DFW area's top critics, agents and directors, leading to her being the only child actress to receive a Column Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in an Equity Play.
Catching the eye of former Olney Theatre Director Clare Shaffer, she was cast as Mary Lennox in THE SECRET GARDEN, garnering high praise for her 'lovely voice' in addition to her acting chops. She then starred in the Ensemble of EVITA, directed by Len Pfluger and produced by Lyric Stage at the historic Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas. Summer followed up her role in Evita by earning a coveted role in Uptown Player's hilarious comedy musical NUNCRACKERS, directed by Dennis Canwright, which opened in December 2019.
She followed up Nuncrackers in early 2020 with the world premiere of acclaimed Playwright Denise Lee's groundbreaking play FUNNY YOU DON'T ACT LIKE A NEGRO, earning rave reviews for her "charming innocence." When the Covid pandemic shut down professional theaters in March 2020, Summer kept busy, appearing in several zoom productions and concerts as well as performing in a staged reading of Holly Doubet's musical 38 MINUTES through Southern Methodist University.
In August 2021, critics raved about her performance as Small Alison in the Regional Premiere of the 2015 Tony Award-winning musical FUN HOME at Uptown Players in Dallas. Dallas Voice praised her command of Small Alison as a “revelation,” stating “Stern gives Small Alison layers of depth [expressing] childish cuteness and tender vulnerability.” Culture Map Dallas summed up her performance by saying “Summer Stern is remarkable.”
After returning to NYC in 2022, Summer made a splash on the local theater scene, appearing in ‘Carrie’ and ‘High School Musical’ at Yorktown Stage Theater, and dazzling local Westchester audiences with a show-stopping performance as Mayzie in ‘Seussical’.
Summer is represented by Carson-Kolker Agency in New York.
