STUART J. ALLYN is an Award winning Broadway audio/video designer, consultant, recording and mix engineer. His work includes commercial and private facilities designs, soundtracks for film, video and albums as well as hundreds of live theater and music productions. He won an EMMY Award for his work on the design team and as lead audio mixer for The 1994 Winter Olympics. His theater and facilities designs include: the new Suffolk Theater; Plainview Library Performing Arts Center; Elmont Library Arts Center, Lenox Road Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY; Church of Jesus, Paramus, NJ; St. John’s University Moot Court, Little Theater & D’Angelo Hall; Island Trees Library Center; Temple Israel Center, White Plains, NY; Tribeca Performing Arts Center at Manhattan Community College; Frank Sinatra School of Performing Arts; TV City (Theme Restaurants); Planet 10 Studios, NY; The Imperial Ballroom at the Grand Sheraton, NY; The Public Theatre, NY; VCA Teletronics Recording Studios, NY; The Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage; The Edison Supper Club, NY; DonHill’s Nightclub, NY; hundreds of private homes and private screening rooms, etc.
Theatrical Sound Designs include: NY debut production of the critically acclaimed PHANTOM by Maury Yeston & Arthur Kopit; the New York Premier production of James Michener’s SAYONARA and over fifty subsequent productions at Westchester Broadway Theatre; the multi-award winning SONG OF SINGAPORE, 1991’s “Best Off-Broadway Musical”; Stephen Sondheim’s COMPANY national tour; The Original Broadway Productions of Michael Bennett’s DREAMGIRLS and BALLROOM; New York Shakespeare Festival’s SATURN RETURNS (Adam Guettel) and ONE FLEA SPARE with Dianne Weist. He has provided sound and mixing services for The White House and most recently served as designer and mixer for the 35th Annual BISTRO AWARDS GALA; the 25th Anniversary Reunion concert of GRAND HOTEL; NO ONE IS ALONE Gala Holiday Concert at the Inserra Theatre; the Huntington’s Association Broadway All Star CONCERT FOR A CURE; and Actor’s Fund benefit Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong with 40 original Broadway Stars from NINE, GREASE and GRAND HOTEL. Mr. Allyn often mixes sound for Neil Berg, Carole Demas, Walter Willison and the Ziegfeld Society; was lead designer and mixer for Broadway to Barbados concerts 3 years running; the award winning Tudor City Greens Concerts in New York and has mixed for the Newport Jazz Festival, concerts at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and many others. Currently he is Sound and Video designer for THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE, starring 3 legendary Broadway Stars at the Laurie Beechman Theatre and other venues as it tours.
Mr. Allyn’s other credits include: Music-Video mixes for Michael Jackson (Billy Jean, Beat It, Thriller) Billy Joel (Remember Saigon) Placido Domingo (Placido Celebrates Seville), Hall & Oates, Aerosmith, and many others. Films include The Winter In Lisbon featuring Dizzy Gillespie, award winning scores for Columbia Pictures and Vestron; critically acclaimed independent films; various specials for PBS including: “Sesame Street, 20 Years and Still Counting”, with Bill Cosby, Ray Charles, Placido Domingo etc.; hundreds of commercials; and Grammy nominated albums including: “Lickety Split” (The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, New World Records) and “Mel Lewis, 20 Years at the Village Vanguard” (Atlantic Records).
Mr. Allyn was a contributing editor to ON PRODUCTION magazine, the Theatrical Sound Editor for LIVE SOUND magazine and a contributor to A/V VIDEO magazine. He has been called upon to teach special sessions at Johns Hopkins University. His work has been nominated for 4 Grammys, 3 Emmys, an Obie, and several CLIOs and has won EMMY, ASCAP, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and 3 film festival awards. Mr. Allyn is a member in good standing of ASA, AIA, ASHRAE, AES, SMPTE(life member), NARAS(life member), NATAS, IBEW, USITT and IATSE local 1.
