BWW Reviews: BOWIE PROJECT Is a Dance Oddity
It's about time that the music of David Bowie gets a stage treatment, and it's no wonder that the inventive Andrea Ariel Dance Theatre clearly sees the potential to create a unique theatrical experience through Bowie's work. Part concert, part dance show, and part performance art, the world premiere of The Bowie Project, which closed in Austin this weekend, frequently entertains but is occasionally too artistic and highbrow for its own good.
THE BOWIE PROJECT: A ROCK & ROLL SOUNDPAINTING Begins 1/30 at Stateside Theatre
Award-winning choreographer Andrea Ariel, in collaboration with the Austin-based David Bowie tribute band Super Creeps and NYC's Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble, is bringing a hybrid performance of dance, theater, and live music in the form of Soundpainting to the Stateside Theatre starting January 30. Through the music of the famed rock and roll shape-shifter, The Bowie Project explores themes of identity in an experimental mash-up of a live music concert with theater and dance, creating an exciting, unpredictable theatrical and musical experience.
