Tanya Aguiñiga Investigates The Creation Of Community Through Fiber Art, Furniture, Sculpture, And Performance
The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is pleased to present the first institutional solo exhibition of works by Los Angeles-based artist and designer Tanya Aguiñiga. Craft & Care highlights Aguiñiga's practice at the intersection of fiber art, design, social practice, and activism, with a focus on motherhood, care, border issues, and the creation of community-themes that run throughout the artist's work. On view through October 2, the exhibition spotlights AMBOS Project (Art Made Between Opposite Sides), Aguiñiga's ongoing activation of the US-Mexico border.
'Nick Mauss: Transmissions' To Open At The Whitney
For his first solo museum show in the United States, artist Nick Mauss (b. 1980) will present Transmissions, an exhibition conceived for the Whitney, which explores the reciprocal relationship of modernist ballet and the avant-garde in New York from the 1930s through '50s. The exhibition-which features daily dance performances in the Whitney's eighth-floor Hurst Family Galleries-goes on view March 16.

The Tony Awards has just announced members of the 2012-13 Administration and Management Committees for next season's ceremony. Sculpture, painting, installations, and photography-as well as dance, theater, music, and film-will fill the galleries of the Whitney Museum of American Art in the latest edition of the Whitney Biennial. With a roster of artists at all points in their careers-younger and older emerging artists, others at midcareer, and some who are well-established-the Biennial provides a look at the current state of contemporary art in America. This is the seventy-sixth in the ongoing series of Biennials and Annuals presented by the Whitney since 1932, two years after the Museum was founded.

The event was held at New York's legendary Plaza Hotel in honor of Sir Howard Stringer (Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Sony Corporation and longtime American Theatre Wing Board Member), and included a special tribute to Douglas B. Leeds (Former President and dear friend of The Wing).
