Solomon Hoffman is a versatile composer, musical director and conductor who has written a variety of instrumental music and musical theater. He is currently a senior at Columbia University, where he is majoring in music and psychology. His composition/musical direction credits in theatre include Modehouse Six, Lydia & Tom (NYCFringe), Twelfth Night (Juilliard Drama), Mint’d: Inheritance (NYMF), The 118th Varsity Show and XMAS!6. Lydia & Tom was praised by nytheatre.com as a “thoroughly complex musical” with “extraordinary songs.” He has also conducted and orchestrated the last three Varsity Shows and will be composing V120 this spring. As an instrumental composer, Solomon is a graduate of the Juilliard Pre-College program. Performance highlights include the New York Philharmonic (School Day Concert), Vancouver Chamber Choir, Counter)induction, ICE (Walden CMR), C.W. Post University Orchestra, Post Chamber Festival, and the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. Solomon recently founded LyricLion, a new ensemble of Columbia and Juilliard musicians dedicated to performing the works of student composers. He has conducted LyricLion in twenty two world premiere performances, including his own compositions, and arranged the songs of young songwriters that the group has collaborated with. More recently, he has been collaborating with dancers, composing for the senior thesis festival at Barnard and for orchesis. Solomon has been the conductor of the Port Summer Show for seven years. He is also the founder/curator of a free weekly music series in Port Washington, Café Music at Dolphin. He currently studies with Peter Susser.
