Lunar New Year Concert To Include U.S. Premiere By Andy Akiho
The New York Philharmonic announces program updates for its Lunar New Year Concert and Gala, led by Long Yu, on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Andy Akiho's Ricochet, Concerto for Ping Pong, Violin, Percussion, and Orchestra, featuring Philharmonic violinist Elizabeth Zeltser (in her Philharmonic solo debut), ping pong players Ariel Hsing and Michael Landers (Philharmonic debuts), and percussionist David Cossin (Philharmonic debut). As previously announced, the program will also include Li Huanzhi's Spring Festival Overture and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, with pianist Serena Wang, the Farmers' Chorus of the Yunnan Province, soprano Vanessa Vasquez, tenors Chad Johnson and Issachah Savage, and bass Alex Rosen, all in their Philharmonic debuts (the additional soprano and mezzo-soprano will be announced at a later date).

The Fantastic Art China: International Creative Festival exhibit at Javits Center North (11th Avenue between 39th and 40th Streets) will feature the works of top master and emerging contemporary Chinese artists from The China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) along with other rising young artists from China and America. The one-of-a-kind cross-cultural exhibit will headline New York City Lunar New Year 2016, a five-day-long festival marking the lunar new year holiday and being held at the city's top cultural venues and landmarks today, Feb. 6, through Feb. 10.

The New York City Lunar New Year 2016 'Year of the Monkey Celebration,' a five-day-long festival marking the lunar new year holiday, will be held Feb. 6-10 at iconic locations across the city and headlined by the Fantastic Art China exhibition at Javits Center North (11 Avenue between 39th and 40th Streets). The festival programs, events and activities - all free and open to the public - will not only highlight Chinese arts and culture but also environmental conservation for monkeys in China. Partner organizations include the US-China Cultural Institute, Committee of 100, New York Philharmonic, National Dance Institute, The Nature Conservancy, Columbia University Teachers College, New York School of Interior Design, Museum of Chinese in America, and the China Institute.
