Shafiq Hicks is from Philadelphia and studies voice at Temple University. This is his first tour. As a vocalist, he has sung background for Estelle, Andrea Bocelli and Aretha Franklin. Theatre credits include Songs for a New World (Man 2), Pippin (Charles), The Wiz (Lion), 25th Spelling Bee (Mitch Mahoney).

Call Me From The Grave will be presented in Concert-Reading Off-Broadway as a part of the Theater Center's Incubator Program. With music and lyrics by Charlie Romano and a book by Harold Hodge Jr, the award-winning musical will be presented February 6th and 8th, both at 7:00 PM.

Jonathan Larson's small off-Broadway show about love and fear during the AIDS pandemic and has had a phenomenal life- Tony and Pulitzer Awards, running on Broadway for twelve years and seen worldwide in successive tours. Loosely based on Pucinni's La Bohème, the play touches a strong cord among young adults and artists in its portrayal of the incredible fear of death, the joys of new love and the loss of creative spaces. We here in San Francisco can surely empathize with Rent's messages. This spectacular touring cast was embraced heartily by a very youthful audience, who, while not born during the AID crisis, still experience its long-lasting ramifications.

RENT is a story of love, tolerance, and hope that follows seven artists in New York City at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. The musical, with book and music by Jonathan Larson, has been beloved since it first opened on Broadway in 1996. Tavares is originally from Hawaii and attended school at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and AMDA NY. This is his first national tour.

The audience follows a group of characters as they discover how important it is to embrace each day they are given because they do not know when it will be their last. Through the entire production on January 14, I could hear fans of the production laugh, sniffle, and applaud as the beautiful story unfolded.
