On Wednesday evening, The Avett Brothers (Scott Avett, Seth Avett, and Bob Crawford) celebrated the opening of their new musical, Swept Away, running at Arena Stage’s Kreeger Theater at the Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C. through January 14 after a thrice-extended run at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in early 2022. Berkeley Rep Extends Avett Brothers Musical SWEPT AWAY
Due to overwhelming demand from enthusiastic theatregoers in 42 states, Berkeley Rep has announced that the world premiere musical Swept Away will extend for an additional two weeks. Previews begin on Sunday, January 9 with the show originally scheduled to close on February 13.

In late 2016, Charles Bradley faced his greatest challenge in a lifetime filled with challenges. A stomach cancer diagnosis earlier that fall forced him off the road at the peak of his career. Weakened by months of chemotherapy, facing a potentially life threatening surgery and confronting his own mortality, Bradley stepped into a home recording studio in Queens, NY and spontaneously created “Lonely as You Are.”

It was announced today that the new musical Swept Away, featuring the music of The Avett Brothers, will have its world premiere at Berkeley Rep as part of their 2019-20 season, beginning performances in June 2020. Swept Away is produced by Berkeley Rep by special arrangement with Matthew Masten and Sean Hudock.
