BWW Review: More than neon lights shine at DCPA's XANADU
Most musical theatre fans would probably agree the movie-musical Xanadu isn't the finest. You've got Olivia Newton-John in as a Greek muse in legwarmers and roller skates, on Earth to help a struggling artist build a roller disco. It's campy at best with some standout songs, visually fun but a reasonable flop.
BWW Review: SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD at Aurora Fox Arts Center
Not all shows need to have exuberant sets, notable actors, or even a solidified plotlines to be impactful. As we move further and further into the age of 'contemporary musical theater,' more song cycles - shows composed primarily of music with no dialogue and presented themes instead of a plot - are making their way into the limelight. Musicals like Edges and Smokey Joe's Cafe are among those that have cemented their place in time, as is Songs for a New World, currently playing at the Aurora Fox Arts Center.
BWW Review: SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER at Arvada Center
The year is 1977 and Disco is the name of the game. Brooklyn is overrun with small gangs and poverty, but club 2001 Odyssey is the oasis that all the well-dressed dancing youths flock to. Inside the doors of the club, the rules change, and dreams are made and broken on the glowing dance floor. Arvada Center has taken on this regional-premier musical based on the cult classic film, and with its many challenges, Saturday Night Fever is a high-energy show that dazzles the audience with is spectacle and glam.
The Colorado Theatre Guild Announces Nominees for the Upcoming Henry Awards
The Colorado Theatre Guild's 9th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd in Arvada, Colorado. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by an after-party. SPAMALOT Opens 4/11 at Aurora Fox
The Aurora Fox will be presenting the Tony Award-Winning musical comedy SPAMALOT from April 11th through May 4, 2014 (Originally scheduled to close April 27, THE RUN HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH MAY 4) at The Aurora Fox Arts Center (9900 East Colfax Avenue).
