Sarah Greene is a talented Irish actress with an impressive list of stage credits. Born in Cork in 1984, Greene began her acting career at a young age, attending the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin before going on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Greene made her West End debut in 2008 in a production of "The Crucible" at the Gielgud Theatre, directed by Yaël Farber. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Mary Warren, a servant girl caught up in the witch trials of 17th century Salem. The production also starred Richard Armitage and Samantha Colley.
In 2011, Greene appeared in "The Cripple of Inishmaan" at the Noël Coward Theatre, directed by Michael Grandage. The play, written by Martin McDonagh, is set on a remote Irish island in 1934 and tells the story of a young man with a disability who dreams of making it to Hollywood. Greene played the role of Helen McCormick, a local girl who catches the eye of the protagonist. The production also starred Daniel Radcliffe, Ingrid Craigie, and Padraic Delaney.
Greene's most notable stage role to date came in 2014, when she starred in the National Theatre's production of "The Ferryman" at the Royal Court Theatre. Written by Jez Butterworth and directed by Sam Mendes, the play is set in rural County Armagh in 1981 and tells the story of a family caught up in the Troubles. Greene played Caitlin Carney, the wife of a missing IRA man who returns to the family farm after a 10-year absence. The production was a critical and commercial success, transferring to the West End's Gielgud Theatre and winning numerous awards, including the Olivier Award for Best New Play.
In addition to her stage work, Greene has also appeared in a number of film and television productions. She made her screen debut in 2009 in the Irish film "Eden," directed by Declan Recks. She went on to appear in the films "Noble" (2014) and "Black 47" (2018), as well as the television series "Penny Dreadful" (2014-2016) and "Dublin Murders" (2019).
Greene is also a talented musician, playing the fiddle and singing traditional Irish songs. She has performed with the band The Henry Girls and has recorded a number of tracks for the soundtrack of "The Ferryman."
Most recently, Greene starred in the HBO limited series "The Nevers," created by Joss Whedon. The series is set in Victorian London and follows a group of women with supernatural abilities who are fighting for their place in society. Greene played the role of Penance Adair, a brilliant inventor and one of the leaders of the group. The series premiered in April 2021 and received positive reviews for its performances and production design.
