Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast’s premier launchpad for exceptional new plays and playwrights, has announced the semifinalists and finalists for the 45th Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF), which will be presented as a hybrid (in-person and streamed) festival July 29-August 07, 2022. Beehive Dramaturgy Studio Partners with Anticapitalism for Artists
Beehive Dramaturgy Studio has announced the launch of a new partnership with a team of artist-organizers including Chris Myers (actor, An Octoroon), Stephanie Borgovan (visual artist), Sofia Goodman (researcher/printmaker), Naiyah Ambros (filmmaker), and Annie McFoxwell (actor) on a new programming series called Anticapitalism for Artists.

The Bridge Initiative Announces Playwright Semifinalists
With a total submission tally of close to 170 plays and musicals, The Bridge Initiative has announced 40 plays as semifinalists for this year's new work contest. The semifinalists hail from as far away as Australia, as well as more than ten states, with four playwrights local to Arizona.
PopUP Theatrics Extends BROKEN CITY: HARLEM
PopUP Theatrics new show, BROKEN CITY: Harlem recently sold out six performances at The Harlem Arts Festival. An extended run will take place between June 29th - July 11th in Harlem. BROKEN CITY: Harlem was conceived by PopUP Theatrics partners, Ana Margineanu, and Tamilla Woodard in collaboration with playwright Peca Stefan. This production highlights artists from the National Black Theatre, Liberation Theatre, HARLEM9, and Harlem Natives.

The 59th Annual Village Voice Obie Awards, celebrating achievement in the Off-Broadway and off-off Broadway theater, were given out at a ceremony last night at Webster Hall in Greenwich Village. The awards ceremony was co-hosted by Tamara Tunie and Hamish Linklater. The awards were presented by Betsy Aidem, Harvey Fierstein, Lena Hall, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Andy Karl, David Bar Katz, Cristin Milioti, Kelli O'Hara, Lily Rabe and Stephen Trask. The inaugural event of 9 producers, bringing together 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 18 actors to re-conceive classic plays from the African-American Diaspora. Harlem9 aims to explore the past, present, and future of black culture and our rich history of storytelling, thus serving to contribute to the re-invigoration of the Harlem community. 48 HOURS IN HARLEM's final presentation is Sunday, August 14, 2011.
