Interview: KENN MCLAUGHLIN of SWITZERLAND at STAGES HOUSTON
I fell in love with it back in 2014 when I first had it in my hand. And I wanted to produce for a long period of time. Ultimately, because it's that element of surprise that I love most about theater, SWITZERLAND is all about surprise.
Review: SWITZERLAND at STAGES HOUSTON
I was expecting a thriller along the lines of MISERY, but in the end the psychological aspects of SWITZERLAND are such that make it a chiller instead. Kenn McLaughlin, Sally Edmundson, and Ian James make a great team to bring it to life.
BWW Review: 4th Wall Theatre's A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2 is Bursting with Feminist Energy
When Henrik Ibsen's character of Nora left her family in his famous work A Doll's House, western theater was thrust in to the modern era. Now in the 21st century, Nora returns in in Lucas Hnath's A Doll's House Part 2, and the audiences gets answers to the many questions one could have on what happened to Ibsen's feminist protagonist. The audience hears a knock on the door and the doting maid, Anne Marie (Sally Edmundson) opens the door to find the famous Nora standing where she once left.

BWW Review: SALT, ROOT, AND ROE Challenges and Touches with Deeply Moving Performances
The distant sound of Atlantic Ocean waves receive you when you enter the theatre at the Kransberg Arts Center for Salt, Root, and Roe by Tim Price, which is currently making its US premier with Upstream Theater in partnership with Stages Repertory of Houston. When the lights dim, you'll be transported to a small village on the northern coast of modern-day Pembrokeshire, the most westerly part of Wales. An exterior beach in the foreground; an interior wood-planked room filled with packing boxes, small furnishings, and textiles just beyond that; and on the back wall, an illustrated representation of this place - Anest and Iola's seaside cottage - all aptly set the stage for what is to come.

Stages Repertory Theatre Presents WHO AM I THIS TIME? (& OTHER CONUNDRUMS OF LOVE)
The first in Stages Repertory Theatre's 2017 Get Talking Series that highlights important voices in contemporary theatre - Who Am I This Time (& Other Conundrums of Love) by Aaron Posner and adapted from stories by Kurt Vonnegut, makes its regional premiere in Houston on January 25 and runs through February 12. Directed by long-time Stages and Houston actor and director Sally Edmundson (Driving Miss Daisy, Auntie Mame, Amy's View), Who Am I This Time takes a good-natured look at love and the conundrums that accompany it through the interconnected stories of three couples, all set against the backdrop of North Crawford Mask & Wig Club - 'the finest community theatre in central Connecticut.' The play's New England everyman narrator and the poignant, often comic look at daily life and relationships are gently reminiscent of Thornton Wilder's classic Our Town.
MARIE ANTOINETTE, THE SPIRITUALIST & More Set for Stages Repertory Theatre's 2014-15 Season
Stages Repertory Theatre's 37th season epitomizes both the spirit of adventure and innovation that launched the theatre and the extraordinary growth and expertise it has achieved in the years since. Highlights include four musical productions-a joyous world premiere production, an infectious international hit, and an obscure classic Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical-as well as three spectacular solo shows, an enchanting, timely comedy, and a searing modern take on a classic drama.
BWW Reviews: Stages Repertory Theatre's GIDION'S KNOT is Exquisitely Taut and Intense
When it comes to tense and taut one-act dramas that play out in real time, one often thinks of playwright David Mamet. With an extensive resume of work I'm not familiar with, Johnna Adams' work in GIDION'S KNOT is just as intense and intriguing as any of the David Mamet plays I've experienced. Furthermore, GIDION'S KNOT is a timely drama filled to overflowing with relevant social commentary that makes the 75 minutes production all the more gripping.
BWW Reviews: Stages Repertory Theatre's VERONICA'S ROOM is a Blood-Curdling Thriller
Ira Levin is best known for his suspenseful and creepy novels The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby, both of which have been adapted into successful films. His 1978 play DEATHTRAP holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller in Broadway history, playing almost 1800 performances across a four-year run. Despite positive reviews and a healthy run, his 1973 play VERONICA'S ROOM just didn't capture audiences the way his other works did. Thrills, chills, and horror are hard to make affective in a staged play; however, Stages Repertory Theatre's production of VERONICA'S ROOM delivers these aspects in abundance.
